Brow Lift Surgery

You love to play outside. This isn't hard to do when you live in sunny Beverly Hills-Los Angeles. The phenomenal weather is perfect for doing any-and-everything under the sun, (so to speak). Unfortunately, all that time playing in the sun and heat can cause skin damage, particularly wrinkle the face's delicate skin. This, along with the harsh reality of getting older may cause your eyelid and brows to droop and look heavy on your eyes. Leaving you looking tired and miserable when really, you're just as excited as the next person to get to the beach. Since your face is the first thing everyone sees, and first impressions are important, you'd like your face to reflect and express how happy you are and your brilliant personality. Luckily, there are simple cosmetic procedures that can be done to reverse this damage and aging. More and more people are looking to brow lift surgery to smooth wrinkles or furrows on the forehead, and lift brows to create a younger, refreshed appearance.

What is a Brow Lift?

The brow lift procedure is utilized to smooth out creases or frown lines on the forehead, and at the same time lift heavy eyebrows to give you a more youthful, refreshed expression. A brow lift can be performed alone, but is often done to compliment another surgical procedure, such as a face or eyelid lift.

Why Choose Dr. Saadat?

Dr. David Saadat is double-board certified in facial plastic and reconstructive surgery and otolaryngology. He fulfilled residency in Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at USC School of Medicine, then began a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive surgery and had the opportunity to work with many nationally and internationally renowned plastic and reconstructive surgeons.

Am I a Good Candidate?

As we age, the skin on our face loses its elasticity, tends to fall victim to gravity, along with other environmental stresses, and begins to droop or wrinkle around the brow and forehead. Drooping is especially noticeable in this area, as the sagging causes you to look miserable or exhausted. The brow lift procedure corrects blemishes while stealing years from your face, the outcome leaves you looking recharged, revitalized, and rejuvenated. Brow lifts are usually done between the ages of forty and sixty-five, but may be needed earlier depending on the specific situation of each candidate.

A good way to preview the outcome before committing to surgery is to put your hands above your brows and outside the outer edge of your eyes, and gently pull upward. During your consultation, Dr. Saadat will evaluate your facial structure, condition of skin, and look at your hairline to see where incisions should be made, and decide the best way to go about the surgery.

How is a Brow Lift Performed?

Dr. Saadat practices the newer, less invasive endoscopic technique that allows him to make smaller half-inch to one-inch incisions slightly above the hairline. However, incision size and technique will vary depending on your special requirements.

  • An incision is made on your scalp or forehead - location and size depending on where you and your doctor decide is best;
  • The forehead and brows are raised to get the desired effect;
  • Any excess skin is removed and the incision is stitched up.

The brow lift is a fairly simple procedure and Dr. Saadat uses a local anesthetic and a mild sedative that keeps you comfortable and allows you to stay awake. By using this means of anesthetic, recovery time is reduced. With endoscopic technique, scarring is minimal, and can usually be hidden in your hair. The surgery takes one to two hours. As with any surgery, there are always risks and complications that may occur, and how to avoid and minimize them will be discussed at your consultation. It's also important to follow your doctor's instructions post-operation.

How Will I Look?

You should expect realistic results, depending on the severity; it could completely transform your face. Do not expect drastic results if you only want a little lift. Dr. Saadat will go over expectations depending on your circumstances surrounding the surgery. You can expect to look like yourself, more youthful and energized- minus the droopy forehead and brows. Because Dr. Saadat specializes in facial plastic surgery, you do not need to worry about skin looking too tightly pulled - he will make sure you leave with a beautiful, natural looking appearance.

Recovering From Your Brow Lift

Since Dr. Saadat employs local anesthetics and a mild sedative, patients can anticipate being back on their feet within a couple days. Most pain following this surgery is minor and can be kept at bay with over the counter pain relievers. Bandages consist of a soft wrap that is worn for two to four days, and during this period, you should hold off on showering or washing hair and keep your head elevated. The first couple days following surgery, it's not uncommon to experience some bruising, numbness and swelling, which can be alleviated by a cold compress. Sutures are removed within the week following your surgery. Patients should expect to be away from work for two weeks, and should limit strenuous activity, as it increases blood pressure, for a month. Patients should also limit exposure to heat and sun.
